In cinematography, matchmoving is a visual-effects technique that allows the integration of computer graphics into live-action footage with correct position, scale, orientation, and motion relative to photographed objects throughout the shot. It is therefor the matchmover's primary responsibility to accurately determine what the camera was doing when it filmed the footage, so that an identical camera move can be reproduced in a 3D animation or compositing software application. However the data collected for the purpose of matchmoving can be used in several ways to assist virtually every department in a visual effects facility, making matchmoving more of a technical pipeline data function as opposed to a single link in the creative chain.
The unique services offered by Monster Matchmoves Inc. extend far beyond conventional camera tracking, and assist the visual effects supervisor, TD, modellers, animators, rotoscopers, compositors and matte painters by employing a proprietary set of process which greatly expands the scope and accuracy of the data generated, and how it can be used.
